Georg,
I had that happen to me. Somehow you have to get that steering wheel off.The wheel that was on mine was trash so I used a long chisel and hit it off from the shaft between the steering tube and the wheel. If you are careful you may be able to reuse the wheel. Looks like you will be looking for a replacement Steering shaft.I am sure someone here may have or know a member who has one. |

3 prong gear puller will help you out. Had the same issue when I did mine, and it did the trick..

Georg,
Matt G. had a really good post somewhere (I tried to find it but was unsuccessful) about removing the steering wheel without destroying the race bearing. Seems like he fabricated a wooden puller unit that didn't damage your steering wheel. I was able to just remove my acorn nut and with some effort pull my steering wheel off of my original, but I think that I got lucky. On my 73, I used a piece of wood on end and a deadblow hammer to tap it off without damaging my steering wheel, but that was after a week of soaking it with penetrating oil (PB Blaster). Still, took some effort though and if you aren't careful it might damage your steering wheel. I would recommend Matt's device that he made.....it seemed like the best option I've seen yet. A puller won't work on that. The threads are broke clean and flush with the wheel.Only George can tell us how he got it off.

I see about 1 1/2 threads sticking out. Since it's not one of the plastic-clad wheels, he can heat the hub with a torch until it glows, and then it should pop right off.

Thanks for the fast answers. Today, I got the Steering Wheel up from the shaft, with a puller, then, I disassembled the complete Tractor, and stored it in. I don't think, I will have time to work at it, before summer, next Year,

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
