Question More engine swapping

OK here I go again;
I picked up a pretty nice 102 at Cubarama last week. This tractor is complete, except for the engine, voltage regulator, and front PTO.

I happen to have laying around a 10hp Kohler engine from an old Case Garden tractor I parted out. Sooo I am wondering if the Kohler from the old Case will work in the 102. I have measured the mounting holes and they appear to be the same, now I am wondering if the Cub clutch will fit on the Case engine? I have the 3 pin driver and the piece it bolts to from the 102.

Also has anyone ever used an electric clutch instead of the usual front PTO.

This engine ran exceptionally well and would certainly be easier than finding one that came from a Cub Cadet, and much cheaper as well.

I hope to restore this tractor and use it to mow with. That will give me the 100 for garden work, this new 102 for mowing and my other 102 to modify with a loader, and mybe a backhoe attachment.

any info appreciated;

That is a hard question to answer since we don't know the specs on the Kohler made for Case are.

The crank shaft were the PTO would mount is probably different.

Unless there are 'tapped" holes in the block, you won't be able to mount an Elec PTO.

As always, one can go to the extent of fabricating and modify parts to make things fit.

Pics would help...every Case GT engine I have seen has had a weird crankshaft, which would probably make that engine a bad choice for this.

Cadet Farmer,
I have a block and an oil pan that you could have - but I don't have the insides. You probably could use the head off that Case, then all you would need is the crank, piston and rod, etc.

I guess I'll have to wait until I get the case engine out of the frame, and see what I have got.

I thought just maybe, someone else had been down this road before, like Matt. he seems to have done lots of this stuff.

Tmo. I'll have to get back with you, I might be able to put something together, with parts from the case and your parts and a scrounge a few more things. I'll just have to see, I appreciate the offer.

Both Cases that i have seen had short crank stubs, but you can change the crank out to a cadet one. We've drilled older blocks to be able to bolt electric clutches to the, the casting bosses are in all blocks. Just use the electric clutch as a drill guide.

I also have the pto clutch and the crankcase bearing plate and the flywheel, I think. About the only things I don't have is the piston, rod, crankcase and head (maybe a few other things). I even have the flywheel shroud.

I have a 149 with the same problem, someone put a Case 14 hp into it, it has an electric pto clutch as the shaft does not stick out far enough for a regular clutch

OK Folks;
I pulled the case engine from the old frame today, I have discovered some interesting facts. Of course the starter generator is mounted to turn the engine from the opposite end as from the standard Cub Cadet, and as someone mentioned the stub end of the crankshaft (opposite of the flywheel) is only 1 1/2"
long where as on my 100 it sticks out 2 1/2". Everything else seems to be the same or close enough to work.

I don't have a problem with the starter generator facing the wrong way as long as it works. As for the short crankshaft stub, I think I can make an extension for it. The end of the crankshaft is drilled and tapped,(unlike the ones used on Cub Cadets). This means to me that I could make an extension with the center drilled allowing for a grade #8 pr #10 bolt to be threaded threw and into the end of the crankshaft. This with a matching keyway and a long key should allow a pto to be installed, and once inside the pto, all should be happy and work fine. I checked and the Cub Cadet drive cup should fit the end of the crankshaft, (on the flywheel end), if I remove the screen that surounds it,(it won't clear the inside of the flywheel).

Look around at some of the different make tractor engines. Kohler web site may have something. As I recall, I got engines from different model tractors that had all sorts of adapters on the crankshafts when I was into pulling hot and heavy. You may find something on EvilBay. I think it was Wheelhorse, but don't quote me.
