Default CC 2072 Info

Hello CC Fans. I am back with a few questions. I gave up locating a nice original CC Diesel. Instead I bought a "green" Diesel that I use for my yard mowing. I recently saw a nice original low hour 2072 for sale. It has a 50 mower deck. What are your thoughts on this tractor? Any known issues with this model? It will be a "show/collector" tractor. I may use it for general duties but not mowing. I don't have details but it is a one owner. I believe this is an MTD built machine.
Thanks in advance for your input.

2072's are great machines. The rare early ones had the Onan B48G motors and then they switched over to the Kohler Magnum 20 engines. They were CCC built from 1987 to 1989 and have the aluminum rears in them. They came standard with turning brakes, front remotes and power steering. Options were rear pto and a cat 0 lift.

As with all machines built with the aluminum rear you need to check and see if all the mounting bolts are snug at 30ft/lbs that bolt the rear assembly to the frame and check to make sure the front tabs on the assembly are not broke. There are fixes for all these issues so it's not that big of a deal but would make a good bargaining tool if there are issues.

Got any pics of it?

I sent you a PM with the link to the listing. It will not let me post pictures. It only has one front remote. 7xx hours.

I talked to the owner this afternoon. It is in the shop getting the starter replaced. Is the starter an issue? The tractor has 7xx hours. The owner also stated it has a rear PTO but no 3pt. Based on my research one cannot have a rear PTO without a 3pt. Is this correct? The owner bought the tractor new in October 1989.

I found the CL listing. It does not have rear PTO. Paint looks clean but almost looks like it was repainted. Tunnel cover has been modified with gauges and the dash tower has had some added things to it as well. I believe this machine is overpriced in my opinion. $3k would be a diesel or this machine with rear PTO and cat 0. The Kohler Magnums are pretty common having starter issues not engaging the flywheel.

Thanks for posting the pictures. The owner states it is original paint and he adamantly states it has a rear PTO (the pics do not show a PTO). The front tires were replaced. The tractor is currently in the shop getting the starter replaced. He will call me when the tractor is returned. The extra gauges are oil pressure and oil temperature. Nice to have but not necessary IMHO. It still has the oil pressure indicator lamp on the dash. I don't know if it is still functional. He has the original bill of sale along with the OMs.

I agree, over priced. What would be a "reasonable" price for this tractor?

My interests in this tractor are #1-close (45min) and #2-nice original one owner. But my preference is a nice original 1772/1782 but nothing within the last couple years.

In my mind, max would be about $1500, but that is a nice looking tractor, and I can't recall finding one that nice near me in a long time.

I add oil pressure gauges to my machines, but I swap them with the hourmeter and mount the hourmeter under the fuel tank.

I received pics of the mower deck. Looks too nice for 7xx hours of operation. Also, the seller is having the engine disassembled for inspection. He said nothing is wrong with the engine, he wanted to know everything was okay.
This is starting to "smell" and I am going to pass on this machine. Either keep looking for a nice 1772/1782 or another "green" machine.
Thanks everyone for your replies.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
