Replaced most of the components in the clutch of my 126(only kept the pressure plates the PO installed and the shaft) wanted to see what people thought.
I am not planning on using the rattle springs as the consensus seems to be they aren’t really necessary. |

The one I took apart recently had only one rattle spring, didn't
seem to matter so I guess I would agree. I would be more concerned about the grass screen that is missing in front of the flywheel. Could get a lot of junk in there. Ken |

No sir, He is referring to the grass screen that goes on the face of the flywheel. That keeps grass out of the engine air intake.
The red marked area is where he is referring to.

I want to start by saying I am no mechanic, but I am diving into this project purely for the love of it.
I purchased a "running" 126 for $100. I put gas in it and a new battery and it fired right up. But it doesn't move, if I press the clutch in to a specific point it will move very slowly no matter how much gas I give it. I am working through a clutch rebuild right now( replaced all of the parts of the clutch except the pressure plates, which the ones on the machine are not original, the shaft, and the release lever) I placed the clutch back in and still have no movement. I am assuming that I have an issue in the transmission at this point and I am not sure what to do. My first guess is the shaft coming out of the case is bad and or the front plate that houses the shaft is wore. I am open to any suggestions Edit/Delete Message |

Just so we are all on the same page. When you say you put the clutch in it
will move. Do you mean when you let off the clutch/brake pedal? If you have not done already I would find the chassis manual for your tractor in the manual sections of this site. You will find how to set the the brake/clutch pedal travel in there. Among a pile of info you will want for your project. I would start with that setting and at least eliminate that possibility. Enjoy the tasks, that is the most important part. You will soon be a better mechanic then you think you are. ![]() Ken |

Ken, I press the clutch the whole way down and then put it in gear, when I let off the clutch entirely, no movement happens it might jolt forward a little (less than an inch) but when I press the clutch lets say 80% of the way down, it will then start moving very slowly. |

Okay, after taking way too long to assemble the Harbor Freight hydraulic press, I have disassembled the clutch again and have provided photos of a lot of the parts. Included are photos of the shaft coming out of the rear of the machine.
I am assuming that the wear showing on the “collar” of the end of the shaft is abnormal and probably part of my problem. As for “truing” my plates, I know a lathe is best practice, but has anyone done tempered glass and sandpaper? |
