Here are some pictures of my new projects.
A 147 to restore. It has been sitting under pine trees for about 10 years. Engine is not locked up. ![]() ![]() 42" more deck rusted, but no holes. Spindles all turn freely. ![]() 1450 rolling chassis for parts on another project. ![]() All for $175. Been negotiating price for about 3 months. I see potential, but all the wife sees is a lot of work and money.

That 147 looks to be in very good condition and with the motor being free I'll bet you get it running in no time:biggrin2.gif:. That's a bangin deal, but then again I'm not married

I hope to crank the engine this week, just to hear it run. It will most likely be torn down for rebuild. The rear axle and hydro will have to be pulled for linkage repair and and the valves are stuck down. Not much room to work on a narrow frame. I've also found a couple of improper welds to the frame that need to be plated and re-welded. Most likely I will strip everything down to get rid of the rattle can paint job on the yellow parts that is peeling. I hope to have it ready for garden work in the spring. Thanks for all the nice comments guys. I'll try to post pics as I go.

Here's a couple of pics as I start to disassemble The oil has been changed. The carb is apart and soaking. Filed and adjusted the points. It will fire. Either the ign switch or solenoid is bad. I'm having to hot wire it to get the engine to spin over. I would really like to hear it run at least once, before I pull the engine.

After several unorthodox short cuts and using a plug wire from a 1987 Toyota MR2, I was able to start the engine on the 147 today. It ran for about 20 minutes. No smoke after the first 5 minutes. S/G is charging. It must have gotten some trash between the needle and seat from my makeshift fuel tank. It started to flood. I feel much better about the purchase after hearing it run. Now to continue with the tear down.
Sorry no pictures, but I'd rather not show some of the modifications it took to get it running. I'll continue to post pics as I can.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
