Default New to Tractors and New to the board from TX

Hi all,

Not only am I new to the board but I'm brand new to working on tractors as well.

Fortunately, I have a pretty extensive mechanical background with cars/trucks/bikes so the actual work isn't usually that challenging for me but a site like this sure is coming in handy for all the tips and tricks that are specific to IH Cub Cadets.

I know some of you are gonna hate me for this but a friend of mine with a mowing business heard that my father was in need of something to work his small acreage and was kind enough, despite my protests, to gift me with a 1974 IH Cub Cadet 169 that he no longer used.

So here I am, using this fantastic site as a resource to get it running and ready for my father to use. It will be really helpful as my father is getting older and could really use some extra mechanical help getting things done around the place; especially with mowing, moving dirt, etc.

Thanks in advance for the info and your help with my (probably irritating) amateur questions!

Default Welcome Johnshaft!!

I caught the "yellow fever" in June and it has taken over my life. Pretty much all I care about, besides my dogs! I'm still pretty new here, but have learned a ton of knowledge and the guys here are more than helpful. Have fun working on the 169 and wouldn't be suprised if you come across a Cub for yourself down the road:biggrin2.gif:

Thanks for the friendly welcome everybody!

I've been sucking up the Tech section like a sponge so hopefully I won't be asking too many repeat questions.

If anyone is from south Texas and knows of a Kohler parts dealer inside the 610 loop, let me know. So far about the most info I've gotten from some of the local mower shops is, "Jeez, it's been a long time since Kohler used points. We might still have some around here somewhere." LOL

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
