Default What is this trans squeak???

Hi All,

Before I even do anything, I wanted to throw this out here. Driveshaft not moving so its in trans. Sounds like the front section, but not sure. Ideas?

OK little update it seemed low on oil, there was inches of oil in it but not up to the hole. Wild guess I put 1 to 1.5 qt 30 weight to get it up to the hole. It smelled like gear oil but all I had was 30wt. The oil that was in there was light tan.

So I put the wheels up and ran it in gear and it seems to be quieter but still squeals when lightly letting out the clutch and I can feel a light chattering and some drag when I slowly turn the wheels in neutral. Hope the added oil helps because I really dont want to tear the differential down.

we'll see!

"Light Tan"? Sounds a lot like "Milky" to me.

Milky usually means water in the oil.

I get ya but in this case it was not milky, I know milky oil. It was a clearish golden color smelled like gear oil. Looked very clean, just a bit low

Sheared pin in the front driveshaft coupler.
If the driveshaft is not moving and something is making noise how could it be in the transmission
Check the pins in the front of the driveshaft,

If you watch his video, he is moving the tractor by hand, apparently in neutral, without the motor running.
So he means the noise is not coming from the driveshaft or clutch.
I might suspect something with the brake puck dragging.

The short answer is yes.
The brake disc, or puck(#1) sits in the piston (3#) which rides in a cylinder in the reduction housing.
The piston tends to get corroded or rusted in the cylinder and does not release pressure.
Does it feel like your brake is dragging?
Check that all your linkages are moving freely, especially the pin (#7) through the arm (#8) and where it goes through the holes in the reduction housing.

VERY COOL Iron, thanks! (Assuming it not the linkage which I'll check first as u said)

I have a creeper gear to install looks like I can do both at the same time. Hopefully the brake bore is not too rusty. If it is, whats the fix, just hone it a bit?

Different tractor but I think the internal brake setup is the same.
Pages 4 and 5 of this thread have some pics and info on the brake.
Follow the links from Iron Man as well for some good brake info.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
