On my 122 has a 1970 K241A installed in it (determined this thru the link to the manual from the tech section of the site thank you!) It idles fine but when I increase the gas it misses. I've swtiched to an autolite 216 but with no improvement. There's no smoke at all. I can't locate my feeler guage to check the gap so going to buy another one and make sure the gap is set right.
I've adjusted the high end needle with no improvement. I know that both high and low end adjustments effect each other. I can't open it up all the way it misses alot. If the points need to be changed I'll just order the pointless setup from Kirk's engines with the coil at the same time and be done with it. I really wasn't wanting to do that right now but if I have to I will. Any suggestions? Thank you for your time! |

I would check the spark plug if you are using a champion spark plug. They like to foul out.
I have the best results with a Autolite spark plug. |

Thanks for the quick reply! I've already put in a autolite 216 with no improvement over the chapion plug.

Is the timing set such that the points are just beginning to break when the "S" mark on the flywheel is centered in the the sight hole? You might also have a bad condenser.

Just pointing out (excuse the pun) a pointsaver system uses the points to trigger the tranzistorized ignition module. Points aren't expensive, like 15 dollars, And if you put his system on you will never have to replace those points again. I suggest you look on mr. Kirks site for the explenation of how his system works.

$15 for a set of points!? Man, either you need to find a new place to buy them, or I'm going to be in for a real surprise next time I buy a set...

Try setting the timing with a timing light, if that doesn't fix the problem I would try replacing the condenser.
I would also check for wear in the throttle shaft bore of the carb. if the bore or shaft is worn very much, you will NEVER get the carb. set right and the engine will always stumble somewhere depending on where how the carb. is set. |

Just a update, I replaced the condenser and points. Got the points set at .020 don't have access to a timing light how do I set the timing with a ohmm meter? I have one just never really have used it before but it looks great in the tool box tho! :biggrin2.gif: Trying to find the widest gap was fun if your into
![]() ![]() It runs alot better I still need to get the needle settings right I'm just off a little bit but runs a lot better then it did. What is the correct gap on the plug? I'm using an autolite 216. The manual says .25 gap the spark plug chart says .35. Put one lead from the ohmmeter on the coil side of the points, and ground the other side. Disconnect the coil from the points first. Rotate the engine slowly by hand in the direction of normal rotation. You want to points to just begin to break (resistance going to infinity) when the "S" mark is centered in the sight window on the flywheel shroud.

I used to time VW enigines the same way but used a test light instead.
