Hi all,
I've been fiddling with my newly acquired "O" and I'm at the point of trying to fire the engine. It was missing the ignition switch, starter button, and voltage regulator when I got it. I happened to have the proper switch and starter button ...but my only spare VR was from an old 127 which is the 3 terminal style without the "generator" terminal. Is it possible to use this VR temporarily to try and get this engine running? Where would the extra wire in the harness go, or is it not possible without the 4 terminal VR? Thanks, Jeff (teet)

Click on this link for Mechanical V/R Data...... V/R
First of all, both V/R's that IH used had a "GEN" terminal. See above link. YES, you can use the V/R from the 127 for a test. IF the wiring harness is original and not hacked up, then take the Green wire and place it on the B or BAT on the V/R. This should allow you to start and test out the motor.

Thanks Roland,
So I would be putting the green and gray wires both on the "batt" terminal? The harness is still intact and in good condition, and I plan on getting the correct VR eventually... Jeff (teet)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
