Default 127 Problems

HELP. ok i just rewired my 127 with new porch harness, hooked it all up. There is a "short" or something going on. Ok, when I hook the Gray wire up to the VR, (the one that goes to the dash gague, the VR starts Humming loud. I just also figured out that the Coil is bad, but would that cause this? Is the VR bad? I also have new points and condenser installed, Please Help !!!

Jay I had the same problem when I fried my harness (orginal not the porch) I had it wired up wrong. Make sure that the VR is wired up right. Make sure that you can read the VR where it's stamped on the leads. For my 122 the wiring diagram was labeled wrong.

Wiring Diagram

VR Diagram

When the VR is installed it should be

Top F
Middle GEN
Bottom Bat

Make sure that the Starter/Generator is hooked up per the wiring diagram.

That's what I had to do to fix mine for my 122. They use the same VR and Starter/Generator.

Hope this helps!

Also, make sure you have the correct V/R. It might also be a good idea to take the cover off and make sure one of the contacts isn't stuck shut.

How did you verify you had the correct wires going to the correct places? Can you post the wiring diagram you are using?

I've looked at Methos's pictures and the two wiring diagrams, and EE I'm not, but the only conclusion I can reach is yours is wired wrong. His connections on the V/R and S/G match the two diagrams. YOU have two wires switched. His tractor is wired correctly per the wiring diagrams.

Not sure how your getting that ............ The middle wire is correct on the diagram on both.....

On the diagram the Gray is on top right, look at the picture, the same location the Yellow is on top. The VR is is the same orientation on the pic and diagram...........

What Am I missing?

On the pic the "bat" is Gray on bottom, its on the top in the diagram. So Now I am confused !!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
