I’m going to rewire my 125 since the engine will be out and at the machine shop. I would like to rewire it and install a new ignition switch. I found a replacement switch on isavetractors, but not the starting solenoid (electromagnetic switch). Is there a part number that you guys would suggest? For wire, I’m considering #10 THHN on the battery and starting circuits and #14 THHN everywhere else. Will these wire sizes be sufficient? My IH or Kohler shop manual doesn’t specify what wire size was original. I found an illustration online, but is there a link or picture on this forum so I know it’s accurate? Thanks in advance, Jay

Your wiring sizes looks to be very light (too small!!!!) Especially for the battery. I have not done any research, but.....
.....I suggest you get yourself a new wiring harness...Porch Electric makes them. http://www.porchelectric.com/ihcub.php

For General Wiring, I use 14 MTW (Machine Tool Wire). Don't like THHN, in that it is, too stiff to work with.
4 Gauge is more in line with Battery Cables.

Thanks for the info, I was planning on taking lots of pictures then laying out the old harness on my workbench. Then, just replace one wire at a time to minimize mistakes. I’m sure my local electrical supply house or big box home improvement store has the MTW you mentioned. I just have easy, free access to THHN. Does the THHN have the same current carrying capabilities as MTW?

MTW may be a little hard to find. THHN will work just fine, it just has the plastic sheath that makes it a bit stiffer.

I was originally going down the same path for my Cub 147, but by the time I considered the different gauges required, all the end connectors and then thought about years down the road not having the proper color codes, decided to go with a new one.
Completely agree with Billy-O and going with a replacement from Porch Electric. They are fantastic folks to deal with. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
