Default Cub 86 pros and cons

Looking at adding a gear drive to my wide frame hydro Cubs. Wanting a Cub to pull a heavy lawn aerator on a large yard. My 1250 doesn’t like pulling this around.
Found an 86 not too far away. Gear drives in my area a few and far between. Never had a gear drive and don’t know much about them. What are some pros and cons to the 86 vs looking for a 108/128/1000/1200? I do have a 14hp I could install if it will bolt in and everything is compatible. It has headlights and in pretty good condition. Is the 86 worth buying and worth as much as the larger hp models? Any thoughts would help

The 86 is one of the rare ones that are hard to find. You can put a 10,12,14,16,hp in the with no mods, but should have no problem pulling a roller.

Went out and looked at it today. Best price is $450 on it. One owner garaged that is pretty original with a few touch ups on the rear fenders. The 38” deck isn’t all rusted out either. Runs well with no smoke, headlights don’t work, but it’s all there. Seem like a fair deal?

It’s slim pickin’s here for wide frame gear drives. Ideally would like to buy a restored one and pay a bit more. Can’t find one of those either! Anyone here have one they want to let loose of? He let me walk on $400 today!!

How heavy is this aerator???? You might need a creeper for the gear drive if the 1250 hydro has trouble!

Have about an acre plus to aerate. Older yard with some roots etc. Trying to buy the Cub 86, but I think he sold it to someone else. Maybe that’s a good thing since I’m concerned with the ability of that small engine to tow the plug core aerator.
Ideally looking for a really nice 108, 128 series gear drive. Let me know if someone wants to let loose of one

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
