Default Front tire sizes

The front tires on my 123 are 16x6.50-8. I'd like to go to a tri-rib design, but all those I've found are significantly narrower, and I'm told won't fit on my rim.

I've owned a Simplicity with 4.8 fronts, and like narrower front tires anyhow. The main question: can narrower rims can be found for the CC?

Your rims are too wide. You will need to change to a narrow rim to run 3.5-4.0/8 tire.

Not to dispute Georg or start any arguments, but I have heard a lot of bad things about those Firestone tri-rib tires. People have mentioned that they weather check in less than a year in some cases with very little sun exposure. I don't think they are actually made by Firestone but in Vietnam by a company that bought some molds from Firestone. Sounds to me like they didn't get the rubber compound quite right. I decided to buy these Vredestein V61 tires instead for my 782D, and so far I think they're wonderful. Everyone I know that has them loves them.

GrantC,

Yes, there are narrow rims available out there. In fact, some of the models came stock with those rims, like the originals, the 70's (I have a model 73 with the narrow rims). I also have narrow tri-rib tires on narrow rims on my 123 and really like the looks & performance of them!! If you are cutting grass, the narrow tri ribs don't compact the grass before the blades get to it, causing uneven stripes, like the wider front tires do. They also make narrow ag tires for the fronts --I just purchased a set this summer by Carlisle. I have seen a cheap set of narrow tri-ribs go for about $24/pair and a higher quality set for about $50/pair. Sometimes, you can find a reconditioned set of rims, already painted up, with a brand new set of tires already mounted on them for about $100. Hope this helps you out some.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
