Default 1976 Quietline 1000 clutch

So looking for some direction.

1 - when I depress the brake (release clutch) I get a popping sound. Any ideas why?

2 - Been aerating a few yards and I feel like the clutch is maybe starting to wear/slip. Tractor is tad slower with aerator on (same throttled speed), almost seems likes she’s slipping And most def slower. Any thoughts?

Should I replace clutch? I’m pretty handy but a step by step guide would be helpful.

Check for broken spirol pins in the driveshaft couplers, both front and rear.,
Broken teaser spring, broken driver pin, broken main spring, broken/cracked flex plate driver, throw out bearing issues.
Really, could be any number of things going haywire.
Pull the tins and have a look around at things.
Have someone operate the clutch while you observe movements
Might just be obvious.
Might be time for a drivetrain re-furb, hard to tell w/o pictures as well.
Just guessing is all we can do for now w/o more info

check motor mounts also the driveshaft will rub the bottom of the release arm when mounts are bad. engine mounting bolts can loosen as well and makes engine ride low. the drive plate on the engine can break when mounts go bad.

Also, the drive shafts get grooves worn in them from the coils of the spring and other things that are supposed to slide on it. Sonds like something is binding at first, then releasing as spring pressure increases. But being a quietline, my best guess is cracks in the big bucks flexy clutch disc.

I had a 1000 and it had the clutch drive plate that had a center made of flex steel so that with rubber mounts it would flex with the motor. The metal cracked and caused alot of issues until I went with solid mounts and new solid drive plate.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
