We have an RZT50 that was mowing the other day and everything was working just fine. Stopped to visit with a neighbor and when I started the mower back up and pulled the PTO switch, the blades do not engage.
In checking the mower, when i pulled on the belt the blades turn real freely with no resistance. Thinking the electric clutch went out, ordered a new on and installed it, but still fails to engage the blades. Also replaced the PTO Switch, still nothing. I have looked at the safety switches and they appear to be OK. Any ideas? |

Just throwing parts @ something is not a way to a repair it,as you have just learned.
I would suggest you check the wiring diagram to see why you have no power to activate the electric clutch. ![]() |

When you say you have power to the pto clutch are you measuring it with a voltmeter at the pto connector? Do you hear a click and see the pto clutch disk move?

Yes, we have power to the clutch and it makes a definite click to engage.

If the clutch is working then you have other issues like broken belts or idlers/tensioners that are not taking up the slack.

How do you know the safety switches are good? I had the same issue and after replacing all 3 safety switches, everything is just fine.

Finally figured it out. Somehow when I put the belt back on when I pulled the PTO switch, it wedged the belt at one of the idler pulleys. I had turned the belt and it had moved ok when I rolled it onto the PTO clutch.
Readjusted the belt and mower is working great. The PTO clutch had gone out and the new one sure made a difference. If anyone should be interested, the new clutch we ordered from oxclutch.com and was almost 1/4th the cost of the one from cub cadet. Wondering what a new clutch from cub cadet looked like, when the too it out of the box it was identical to the ox clutch. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
