Hydro leak??

I’m new here. Need knowledge on my tractors. My 682 red cub leaks some hyt-ran after it’s shut down. Appears to run out the filter near the rubber gasket seal. Nowhere else do I find fluid. It’s only about a teaspoon at a time. Please advise me where and what to do. I’m sure I’m not the first to have this.

If it's leaking at the filter, I'd just replace the filter and see if that fixes things?

I’m sorry I forgot to mention, I’ve replaced the filter and done a fluid change.

I was wondering if this is where I’d find evidence of the notorious cork gasket leak?? When that happens, where does the leak appear??
I should also state- I just acquired this tractor, along with its maintenance records from an estate. So I can see a bit of what’s been done.

Welcome to the forum!
Yep, at least change the filter.
Make sure the mating surface to the filter gasket is nice and smooth.

With filter removed, look very close to the surface of tranny above the filter.
The actual leak might look like it is coming from where the filter seals on the tranny but it might be coming from above and running down and around the filter.
Could be a leak at input shaft seal #47 or less likely #43 O-ring.
Filter screws onto #28 nipple.

I would just do the same as you did for the filter change.

I would carefully turn the filter 180 degrees trying to only disturb the dirt that is on the filter, on the very end.
In doing so you might be able to see a drip spot that is a bit cleaner then the surrounding area on the filter can.

If leaking from the input shaft seal, every time it drips while running the cooling fan is blowing the drip elsewhere.

Cork gasket is between the hydro unit and the rear end. Yes, the fluid has to be drained to change it, but iF it was leaking there, it wouldn't be on the filter.

Take the tunnel cover off and power was the hydro. Don't do it while it is hot. Look for the leak then. Should be obvious once you clean it up.

I had to do the infamous cover the hydro in baby powder and watch to see where the leak comes from. Found my cork gasket and the relief valves were both leaking which made it harder to figure out otherwise.

I thought you could roll the rear out and flip it up with the pump on top and change the gasket with the rear still full of fluid? Least that's how I think I've done it before.

Regardless, I'd pull the tunnel cover give it a bath and go in the house. When its clean and dry you should be able to find all the leaks and determine how many of them are worth the headache. By the way, now is a perfect time to address trunnion wear and check the condition of the driveshaft at each end.
