Hey Guys,
Just as the title says. I am restoring the dash on 126. What have you guys done to restore these fiberglass dashes? I'm afraid to sand it or polish the old away, in fear that I am going to mess something up, but I really want it to look as clean and as new as possible. What do you all suggest? Just a good soapy scrub down? Thanks Chad |

So do you just want to clean it or are you planning to paint it? Your question is a bit confusing.

Well, to be honest, I would love to paint it. I have heard bad things about painting fiberglass and have been told that it doesn't stick or last a long time. If I have some confidence in the dash taking paint well, then I would much rather paint it to make sure that it matches my hood (currently restoring the entire machine, and have most of it ready for paint). Basically, I would like to know what you all have done. Does the dash take paint well, or should I just clean it as good as I can?

Paint will stick just fine to fiberglass, it's plastic that's the tricky one. I would wetsand the existing finish with 500 grit and then you can go straight to paint, you only need to sand it enough to remove all the shine. If you're planning to prime it I would dry sand it with 320 grit and then wetsand the primer with 500.

I used the decals from MH on both my 126 and 104.
Was not happy w/either one in the end. Decals were too small in some area and to large in others. Mainly around the corners (too small) and the throttle slot (too large on one side and too small on the other side) or too small all the way around as was the case on the 104. The logo is not over the embossed section and once you center the decal over the steering shaft hole, the rest is un-adjustable. Also there are no decals for the air cleaner or gas tank in the set. |

Maple Hunter has fuel tank decals. The Kohler decals for the engine can be found at www.redoyourhorse.com.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
