Just wanted to check with the experts before tearing into it. I was mowing this evening and I noticed I was getting some issues from my clutch. I'd let off and surge or not go anywhere. Other times seemed to work like normal. Finally I found I have to let it completely up to go anywhere (ie no gradiation in the release if that makes sense)
I throttled down and I can hear the clutch (or something) grinding when engaged and not when its disengaged. My spidey sense tells me bad clutch? or perhaps need adjusted? |

Check for a broken roll pin in the driveshaft...

BTW its on a 102
Took a look at it this evening and everything looks there. The clutch disk does have a small notch developing around one of the attachment points. With the mower going and clutch engaged (but in neutral) I do get some sparking from somewhere around the drive shaft area (and the spring I believe). But clutch fully engages and disengages when it is supposed to. Hmmm, thought about adjusting it a bit but the sparking has got me stumped at the moment! |

Looked over the service manuals. I noticed that my teaser spring is rather flat (compared to the image of a new one) could that be causing my issues with the clutch being essentially on or off? I've also looked into the throw out bearing but I honestly didnt see it in the clutch part of the manual (but I have found the part from my parts place) curious where it goes...

The TOB is the part that the lever actually moves, your shaft has an awful amount of wear in that area. Your teaser spring also looks like it is ruined and if that isn't enough bad news for you, your clutch lever hanger has elongated holes I'll bet it rattles like crazy when you don't have the pedal pushed down.
Looks like it's time for a rebuild, I know all of the parts are kinda spendy, but if you rebuild it properly, you will never regret it. |

I did see the shaft wear but wasn't sure how much of that I should expect (how much tolerance the whole setup has for such an issue). So if Im looking at it right I need a new TOB, teaser spring, drive shaft and bracket? Somehow I think I'm going to be rebuilding the rear end before its all over too (8-) |

never mind about the TOB location...I see what you mean ( i think) its to the right of the image in the clutch lever assembly?

it is the round nose sticking through the clutch arm just behind what's left of the teaser spring.
