Carbureator frustrations
I have a problem with my 1200 I just got a correct kohler # 26 carb to replace the POS walbro that was on it when I got it I replaced it because it was constantly needing adjustments. All was well except for the govenor part on the walbro there was a nut to disconnect it from the carb. Well the kohler carb has the ball part already on it and I cant attach the govenor rod to carb because the ball is not threaded on it is permantly attached to the carb. Also how do I remove the ball end out of the govenoer rod. Been putting this project off but I intended to replace the carb and get the yard mowed today. Not mowed since last week of june so its got lots of work to do thank you for reading and helping.

Im assuming it would be easiest to snap the old one out by reattaching it to the carb and pull it out. I kind of feel bad now I stared at my situation for the better part of an hour today trying to figure it out before I shut the shed up for the day thanks j mech for the info.

No.... the ball is riveted to some carbs, bolted to others. Just depends on when it was made, or if it's been replaced. The socket joint just pops on and off the ball. I don't understand why you think you need to do something with the old carb..... Just pop the socket joint off the old one, and pop it onto the ball of the new carb.

I just had a thought.... it is possible that the socket joint on your old governor linkage has been replaced, and is the not separable style. If that is the case, replacement is the best option, or you can grind the riveted ball off the new carb and bold the old socket joint on. Only thing to watch out for is that the hole in the new carb may not be large enough to accept the bolt. In which case, you can drill it if the lever on the butterfly shaft has enough surface area. It should. If any of this is confusing the tar out of you, just post pics of what you have. It's easy to tell with a quick pic if you have the non separable style.
