Mount them where the old sled runners were. The one on the right should be set so that the cutting edge of the blade is even with the edge of the wheel bracket. The left side should be positioned so that the wheel doesn't stick out past the edge of the deck. The deck isn't square, it's rounded on the left side and curved across the front. It's kind of difficult to get a measurement you can use. Just do your best to make them square. Use the back of the deck as a guide for square. You can also use the brackets for the rear wheels to get the front ones square. We bought a set for a deck on a 782 dad had when I was a kid. As I recall, they didn't have instructions other than to put them where the old sled runners were. I remember because dad was surprised they didn't come with any real instructions to mount them.

Thanks! I was thinking of keeping the runners for extra support as the decks are kinda flimsy.

I bought a set of those brackets and wheels years ago (still have them) and they didn't come with any instructions. The above sounds like good advice on how to mount them.

Cut them off. They don't add any strength to it anyway.

Lol alright. Is there anything you would suggest to add to the deck for strength or perhaps any mods besides the wheels

If u have a welder....it sounds like u do. I added a continuous 3/8" round bar around the whole bottom of the deck. I placed a one inch weld about every 4 inches. Then I also tied the front wheel clear through to the back wheel on the discharge side. Really tighten it up without too much weight. I may have some pics somewhere.

I wouldn't suggest anything. I've ran those decks all my life. Never needed anything added to them to "stiffen them up". Make sure it has the plate on top and it's tight. It's fine. Quit worrying.

In general the decks r ok for strength. But...the back wheel on the discharge side is a real weak point! The bar around the bottom gave me something to weld to... to tie the front and back wheel together. I feel it was just what it needed. The bottom of the shell had no support for that wheel bracket.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
