Alright so this is probably not the average post, but I'm trying to clear space in my shed and I have come to a tough decision. I need to choose between a cub cadet 123 and my 102.
The 123: rebuilt motor, trans flushed, filled tires, red-koted tank, rebuilt steering column, tie rod ends, and it was my first cub. The 102: 10 horse motor, don't know anything other than it runs great, hydraulic lift from factory, sleeve hitch, very nice original paint, no creeper, brand new grote light. Starts and runs every time no issues. Just looking for some input, thanks ![]()

Take all the goods off the 102, put them on the 123 and sell the 102.

Both great machines, a difficult choice for sure! Assuming a bigger shed is not an option, then...
I'd make the decision on what I used them for. If plowing snow was a priority, the 123 with the hydro would be my choice. If I cut grass on a hillside, I'd want the gear drive. If I pulled a bottom plow, I'd want the gear drive. If they were just used to pull a cart around or for collector's purpose, I'd keep the 123 as it was the first hydro.

If there is no way to keep both then I would keep the 123 since it was your first cub. Take the options off the 102 and sell it. Decisions Decisions!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
