Default Hood Alignment

I was working on my 108 the past couple weekends now and was fixing an issue with the hood hinge. The PO must have replaced the hinge at some point as the hood and nose casting set too far above the grill housing. After I got this adjusted I had to move the grill and hood back a bit as there was a gap between the hood and the dash cowl. Am I thinking correctly that the hood should rest on the stepped down part of the dash cowl with little gap?

Secondly, the diagram shows a rear hood mount that has 2 rubber bumpers on it. Is this support adjustable as in up and down? The PO put a piece of rubber fuel line on the hood to keep it from vibrating which didn't work very well as it has both sides of the dash messed up.

Yes, the hood should rest on the stepped down portion of the dash, I'd leave about a 1/4" gap so the bottom edge of the hood doesn't run the dash when you open it.

ok is that rear hood support where the bumpers go adjustable up and down?

It should look this the one pictured below, the panel is slotted where it attaches with the two bolts so you can move it up and down .

Yes, the "rear hood support" is adjustable and the hood should rest on it.

Without the rubbers it may rattle but rattling is better than having the hood wearing the fiberglass cowl away.

If you don't have the rubbers, you may slit a piece of small vacuum hose (or something similar) and glue it onto the support.

I used black door edge guards on mine, works great.

Ok while working on this hood issue...I have come across a question that I have gotten mixed answers on. When mounting the hood to the hinge should the hinge go between the grill panel and the nose casting or on the inside of the grill panel? Most of the ones that I have seen the hinge was between the panel and the nose the hinge looked trimmed so it didn't show...which is the right way???

Mines on the outside of the headlight panel, not sure if it's right but that's how it was when I got it and that's how I put it back together.
