Default Picked this up recently

New to the Forum, picked up this 1554 recently, the problem with it is that after cutting for about 20 mins or so the PTO cuts out. Let it cool down and it will run again. I did a OHM and voltage check on the tractor side of the PTO wire and i get 14v, and I think the ohms was 2. something, cant remember exactly. I am thinking the PTO is bad, but I am going to try and change the PTO switch before doing the PTO. I did try testing the resistance on the PTO, but I may not be doing the check right, as I am not getting back any reading stays at 0.00.

I have the multimeter set to ohms 20m or 20k, touch contacts and nothing. The battery does have a good charge and at full throttle with PTO engaged, I am getting 14v.

I need to test the switch when the failure is happening, so I will try to do that and report back

Welcome to the forum!

The GT1554 is considered a garden tractor. I moved this thread to the proper section.

You could have a failing PTO, but a wiring issue is more likely the case on a tractor of that vintage. Continue and test to see that you have power getting to the PTO when it quits.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
