I have successfully passed the cub sickness onto my cousin. We started tearing into his first tractor, an original, tonight. I know nothing about these tractors other than the basics of engine and transmission. The clutch is what scares me. We are afraid that it might need a new clutch (or wear pads. Like I said,
I don't know about these things). If you guys could give me the run-down on these little beauties, that would be great. Anything will get me into a better position that I'm in now.

Some of us have redone our O's but this young mans "refurb" will show you pretty much everything involved inside one and is a good read.
http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=34439 Some may do it differently but most try to fix all the mechanicals and make sure everything is right before you take it all down to the nub for paint if that's how far you're going. Nothing worse than to get it all back together and realize something inside one of the major components isn't right, btdt. The clutch is different because it's belt driven but quite easy to get out and parts are easy to come by as they made a lot of them. I sourced most of mine locally from bearing and seal store. The hubs unlike the later tractors have the friction material bonded to them, there's a collar with a bushing and timken bearings in it instead of a regular throw out bearing but again, easy to take out, no need to pull the engine.
