Default How to value and advertise an IH Cadet?
I've got a friend back in central Alabama who was planning to junk two or three CCs he's used over the years. One of them is old enough to be a standard-shift transmission model with the 7hp Kohler, "ran-when-parked".

I've convinced him to at least give craigslist a shot at passing it on to someone who could use it.

Where would he find the model identifiers for this machine, so he could accurately describe it?

Hello Jack!!! Well, looks like you have given your friend some very sound advice and as collectors, we appreciate that. Next, looking at the serial numbers on the plate on the rear end (transmission) of the cub cadet he can find out what year it was produced by IH using this chart, which can be found in the Technical Section of this forum.

Now, this is not fool proof because parts interchange, but the hood on a cub has some decals (unless it is the "Original" from 1961-1963). If it has a 7hp, and the frame bolts together then it would be one of those Originals. If the frame is solid then it would be either a 70, 71, 72, or a 73, which were known as the economy line tractors that IH produced. This is of course, assuming that no one has swapped motors. Of course, the best way is just to post some pictures for everyone to see, then we look carefully and can usually get you a very accurate idea of what you have.

Note: Down toward the bottom of the forum, there is a section titled, "What's It Worth?" in which people will assess what extras the tractor has and its condition to come up with an estimate of what the value of the tractor is for the buyer/seller.

Many of the older ones have the serial number locateded in different areas.

Here's a link to help your friend find his numbers.

Armed with the correct numbers he can then look up what model the tractors are, along with the month and year of production.

It's a military thing. They hook me up while I'm here for 4 10-hour days and I get a 3 day weekend at home with the family.

Slightly on-topic though, I am up here quite often in Alabama. I find myself in need of a cub, and can provide a good home.

Dang I was less than 20 miles from him last Saturday picking up some cubs! Wish I knew where I could give em a good home to! LOL
Thing about that area is there are a bunch of Cubs down in there and most of em are just "sittin and waitin" to be fixed up "one of these days" dang it. There must have been a heck of an IH dealer in the Birmingham/Bessemer area back in the day because I have probably bought close to twenty out of a 30 mile radius of that area centering on Bessemer.
