Default Cub 149 Loose oil dip stick

Is the dip stick supposed to fit tight in the metal cap that it goes through?
Mine is really loose. I would think it should be tight but not sure. Thanks in advance for your help. Have a great day.

My 149 used to fit pretty snug but over the years has loosened up some. The 169 does not fit very tight at all. I was looking at getting a new one.
Priced one, I don't know what i will do? but i am not going to pay more for a new dipstick than i did the whole tractor.

Could it be the O-ring is deteriorated?? If it shrunk, the DS would be loose,,,,

I have had that situation, and just ignored it,,,

An O-ring would cost, what,,, a buck??

I believe the "o" ring is ok. It looks like the dip stick should be attached to the round metal cap. It seems like every thing is loose. I have attached a picture showing a gap between the top part of the dip stick and the round cap above the "o" ring assembly. Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Take the o-ring off, bead blast it and weld it back on. It's supposed to be welded.

What he said. I welded mine and replaced the O-ring.

And if you don't have a welder, silver solder, braze, or even soft solder will work, but it must be clean and sweat it, don't mud it on.
It originally was spot welded

Default O-Ring Size

I have the same issue, but no access to a welder. Also, does anyone know what size O-ring is correct?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
