Default Scored an IH 982

I just got back to my hotel, in my work truck. Not working too far from home but far enough where the traffic is bad. So, I'm staying in Timonium MD. Anyhow, I found this guy on Craigslist Sunday night. I think I got it for a "lew" price. Has rear PTO and original Onan engine. Also got the original owners manual, it was purchased new right down the road from the guy at Hickory International.

Thanks guys. I'll get it home tomorrow. I actually passed on it Monday night because it had a real bad grinding noise on start up and I was a little scared. Talked to my buddy which is a engine guru and said starter just needs to be shimmed, don't know why I didn't think of that, had to shim starter on an old gmc pick up. I bought it right before a big collector came to swoop it up so it was meant to be. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight keeping guard on it in the parking lot! I thought this was cool to find in the owners manual

Congrats on the 982. There was one for sale up there somewhere that said it had rear pto but he had a picture of the hydro output shaft thinking that was the rear pto. IIRC it was still a pretty good deal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
