Default New Find CC 105

I picked up my first CC today. It's a 1968 105, although the hood graphics shows it to be a 104. I'm guessing the graphic or the hood (or both) are not original. From the literature I've read, it has to be a 105 as it is a hydro model. Serial number is 266550, which puts it in the 1968 production. If I'm off base here, please let me know.

I'm really looking forward to working on this and getting it ready for spring. This is my first Cub Cadet although my grandfather had one when we were growing up.

The PO had let it sit for 4 years with gas in it. You know how it smells and what it looks like now. I pulled the tank and emptied it before even putting it inside the garage tonight. Below are some pics I took of the trip and the tractor!

I went ahead and pulled the gas tank with 4 year old gas. It was not pretty.

A nice big flat. This made it really hard to push and load.

I'm not sure what this drive shaft part is called yet, but it has some wear around the roll pin and has started making it egg shaped. The second picture is the opposite side. I'm guessing this part needs to be replaced now. What do you guys recommend?

That's all for today. I hope I didn't post too many pictures. All comments and recommendations are appreciated.

Welcome to OCC! You know this one tractor will spontaneously reproduce
and before you know it there isn't room for the car in the garage
You will NEVER see anyone on here say that you posted too many pics
Congrats

That pin will last long enough to take it for a test drive cause you got to
do that first then start working on it.first drive on your first cub is important
Check your hydro fluid level before you do that though

I see you got a spring assist with it too, nice find! That drive cup is a lot nicer than any of mine have been. It can be built back up with a welder and then ground back to the size it should be. Good luck with it!

Very nice looking 105

The worn part is a drive hub. I can make you a new one and also a driveshaft if you'd like. ( parts I make http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=20875 )

I got you beat on old gas. My former 122 had 12-15 year old gas in it and it had separated to light and heavy particles ( components? ). The liquid part I burned and it was difficult to light. The heavy part was like tar and totally disgusting. LOL

That 105 is in nice condition, you'll love it. I bought a 105 last fall but mines in much rougher condition than yours. Have fun with it, its one tough tractor.

That looks more like a 105 than a 104. In fact, I believe it is a 105 and not a 104. Looks to be in great shape and with a spring assist. Congratulations on your 1st cub. Now, time for a truck so that you can have a real cub hauler.

Congrats on the 105, never thought I'd see a cub being pulled by a Prius.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
