Default Original Problems
Hi,
My O is making a knocking sound from the engine. I know kohlers usually knock. But is this an easy fix? Is it timing? Points? Would it make a difference if I adjusted the points differently than .20? Any ideas?

your best bet would be to take a video of it running so we can hear whats going on, a video might help narrow down the cause.

I wouldn't run it until you figure out the knocking. I have two kohlers and neither one have ever knocked. Did it start this all at once? Could be something simple, but I'd investgate. You don't wann ruin the engine.

No, they do not.

It could be a spark knock, which could have many causes.
It could be a loose rod.

A video would help.

I was told by other mechanics that kohlers tend to knock. I guess I'm wrong.

You need to upload the video to another site like YouTube and then post the link here, I think you can also use photo bucket and a few of the other picture hosting sites.

Camshaft end play improperly shimmed.
Shimmed my 1450 to spec's...
no more knocking.
I wasn't gonna open the door anyway!

I believe I would seek advice about my Kohler engines from someone other than these people.

It could be any of the things that the guys have mentioned, hopefully it will be something "low cost" like cam shaft end play.

You really need to learn to set your timing rather than "adjust the points".
