Default Mix and Match 982

Previous posts of 982 blues and proud new 982 owner.
Turns out my 982 has been repowered and has a 317 deck on it, I think the chassis is original though, hahaha.

Still haven't got it started since it died at my back door, but I only get to work on it every other weekend due to my schedule. I changed the ignition switch and solenoid since I was having intermittent starter function but that is when I lost fire to the plugs. I'm not sure why it ever worked since a wiring trace and meter check showed 12 volts going to the kill lead coming off the module. I think I read somewhere that this would deep six the module. I'm going to replace the module, disconnect the circuit supplying power and install a separate toggle switch kill circuit. I'm not sure what this is going to do to my safety circuit though. I got the motor pulled so I could remove the module, will also rebuild/replace the starter while it's out. One problem at a time.

Anyway, thought I would give all you CC GT experts a good laugh. On the flip side, I'm getting to know my 982 very intimately and should have a solid tractor once done.

I have only re-powered a couple of 82 series now and have used a normally closed relay to kill the engine but if you go the toggle switch way I would use a momentary switch cause someday you will leave that kill switch in the "off" position and be a cranking away wondering why it won't start.
Just a thought you do whatever you think is best

Thanks for the tip. I have both types of toggles and have been debating the pros/cons of each. I like the error proofing of the momentary switch for starting but I also like the intrinsic safety of knowing the engine can't start without a conscious and deliberate action.

Normally closed relay, hadn't thought of that. Do you have a part number and manufacturer of the relay you use? We make mil-spec relays where I work but they are high current and all require current reduction circuits to keep the circuit open without burning up the coil. I can see this as a better alternative, I like the idea of not having to change the outward appearance of the dash panel.
