Anyone have any resources that list the different torque you should use on various parts of the 1811? Like the rear end cover and axle covers for instance?
I looked through the operators manual and didn't see them there. The PO of my 1811 decided it was a good idea to use some kind of liquid gasket and seems to have tightened the rear bolts down about as hard as they could. Luckily the threads all still looked good. Thanks in advance.

Any hints where I might find it other than ebay and other sellers? Our library only has the service manuals for pre-CCC tractors.
Or if someone has one, at this point I only need the torque numbers and pattern for the rear end plate.

And I probably have taken pictures of the mess I found when I opened up the rear end. The fluid in there was a light brown almost like motor oil but it wasn't. There was very little the way of sludge, which concerns me since I know the fluid hasn't been changed in many many years from the condition of a couple things once I got the cover off.
Also there was a Puralator oil filter on the hydro. I broke an oil filter wrench getting it off it was on there so tight. I'm hoping after I get the proper torque pattern and numbers for the rear end and get the right fluid in it, it will run like a completely different tractor. So hopefully someone knows where I can get this manual or the information with out having to buy it and wait days with the rear with no fluid in it.

All I could find is the part number for your manual 772-3899. My local dealer gets in stock parts in 1to3 days depending on what day of the week you order. Usualy on matters like this I just skip the front door and go around the side to the shop and ask the mechanics.
HY-TRAN is light brown when its fresh out of the bottle. I dont know about the other oils. |

I use Permatex Black sealent, I no longer use gaskets. I've sealed up about 8 of them with no issues. You have to know how to use it I suppose, some guys can make a mess of anything.
There is no torque pattern on the rear cover....it's just a cover. However I alway tighten alternate opposing bolts much like wheel studs, and I tighten incrementally. Years of experience will dictate to the hand just how tight. In the case of sealent you don't over tighten as you will displace the sealent, snug. If you insist on a gasket,... I personally won't use a gasket where oil is present without #2 on each side of the gasket, very thin layer, too much is worse than not enough. Clean each surface thoroughly, cleanliness is Godliness in this case. If you need head torque numbers let someone know and I or someone else will look it up but on the cover.....don't turn it into something it's not, you'll be fine. Scott Edited to say..... I cannot imagine putting a torque wrench to the cover bolts but.....my guess is about 35lbs. Particularly the aluminum rear covers are thin metal and if you tighten too tight all you are doing is deforming the cover at each bolt, this does nothing but damage the gasket and distorts the cover. |

K, right now I have the new filter on per spec. And I have the rear cover and gasket on with all the bolt snugged down but not very tight at the moment.
The gasket liquid the PO used was light grey, sort of just looked like silicone caulking to me and there were a few places where metal met metal between the cover and the rear end. Surprised it wasn't leaking, but then again he was very liberal with it's application. I think Matt might have the exact numbers, which will be a good place to start so I can make sure I get it right the first time and hopefully no leaks.

I just scanned the entire manual....there is a 'special torque' page but nothing on the rear cover.

Thanks Roland. That manual is pretty close. But doesn't mention the 1811.
The actual manual for the 1811 says right on the front that it's also for the following models: 784 1050 1204 1210 1211 1810 1811 1812 2072 1572 1772 1872 1604 1606 1806 But for now I'll use the 360 inch/lbs the manual you linked says and we'll see if there's any leaks.
