Default Darn 982!

I've got her running like a top, all buttoned up and ready to work.

I've made a few posts about custom attaching a tiller to my 982 since the rear 3pt pto tillers are pretty scarce. Well I came upon what I need (tiller, 3pt & pto), only to find that they don't work with the CI rear end. They didn't make a rear PTO for the CI rear ended 982's did they?

There does seem to be a CI rear plate, just doesn't show up on Partstree? Anyone know part number?

My 982 with rear PTO has a CI rear in it, so yes they are out there.

From looking at the parts diagram, it seems to have an odd setup for the rear pto.

OK - I have a question for you experts. What I'm thinking about is installing this (rear PTO, 3 point & tiller) on my 1862, until I can find a CI rear plate for the PTO. All the parts seem interchangeable between the CI and AL PTO's, and I believe the only thing I'll need is to shorten the implement lift bar from the cylinder to the 3 pt or add another hole since the 1862 is shorter. Any thoughts?

Toyman, I too have the CI rear. The plate is out there as I've see one recently and I'll have to look again.

Your 1863 WILL NOT handle that tiller and once you get your hands on it you'll see for yourself.

You'll also need at least 100lbs in the front of your 982.

Stay the coarse with the 982.

Thanks Scott. I think I'm going to get the package and keep my eyes out for a CI rear plate.

AJ - thanks for the part number!

That plate was at CCWH and is now sold.

You will have the steel plate for the aluminum housing and you can use it as a layout to make a CI plate...nothing to it.

There maybe another out there, I'll keep an eye out.

Deal is done for tiller and rear PTO. I'll have them home hopefully on Sunday. I'll keep an eye open for a CI rear plate, and if I don't come across one, I'll consider fabbing one up. Thanks for the input! Hopefully I'll have my JD with the tiller and thrower on CL shortly!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
