EDITEDHi all , Last Friday my 123 decided to die. Immediately jumped to the conclusion my head gasket went . Painful troubleshooting process but decided was wiring harness, been procrastinating . It certainly needed to be replaced for a long time .
Well now the new one is in and went to start and nothing happened when turn key . Long story short I by passed safety switch located below steering wheel tower . It now runs and turns off by key . How important is the saftey switch . Can I run the tractor without damaging anything with switch by passed . |

You might damage yourself or something else as it may start in gear w/the switch bypassed.
If it were mine, I'd check the switch as that is what's most likely bad. Did it start and run before w/o the switch bypassed?? Have Ya got all the wires on the correct terminals of the ignition switch? |

Thanks for quick reply . I had a frayed wiring harness for a long time . Yes it started last Friday . Died cutting grass would turn over but not start . Thought head gasket leak . wrong . Decided it was my shorted out wiring harness . New one installed would not turn over at all . When by pass safety switch all works fine .
So the purpose of safety switch is for it to only start in neutral ? Would it also need to have the brake on to start if switch was working correctly ? |

You will not damage any electrical components with the switch bypassed.
As stated before, it's possible that you could hurt yourself, someone else or cause some property damage, with the switch bypassed. Truth be told, I probably have as many tractors with the switches bypassed as I do with the switches in working order. Fortunately I have never had any kind of issues, but I'm getting older every day and some day I expect that I'll try to start something while it's in gear and Lord only knows what kind of fiasco may result.

Brake depressed insures trans will be in neutral and the switch will make contact the way the linkage is constructed. Is the actuating spring still in place? broken? missing?
I believe that switch is the only one involved on the 123, so if it IS working, your problem lies elsewhere. Consult the wire schematic for your tractor (links are here on this site) and do some testing. Who built your wire harness? I'd contact them |

I would be astounded, amazed and buy lottery tickets if I was able to get my 127 started while it was in gear.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
