Hydro Whine
I have noticed over the years of collecting tractors , etc. some tractors the hydr is louder than others etc, what actually causes the hydro to make noise etc, and why are some louder than others ? thnx in advance

Can be a multiple of things. When I picked up an 1872 about 2 years ago. The hydro whine was so loud you swear you need hearing protectors when running it. I found out shortly after getting it that some of the bolts on the tunnel cover were loose. With the tractor running, downward pressure on the cover made this noise from to a normal level. With the cover loose, it was acting like a sounding board and amplifying the hydro noise.

My 1211 doesn't whine. But I haven't ever heard a hydro combine that didn't!

My 129 and 123 are totally silent unless you really throw the lever fast. My 149 whines most of the time.

Ive had them both.. some whine and some don't.. I always figured the whine may be due to a worn pump or the wrong oil.. But like one other member said... every hydro IH combine or farm tractor that I ever operated whines like crazy...yet they perform very well..

My 1864 whined terribly when I got it. You had to wear ear plugs it was so loud. I changed the fluid and filter and cleaned the rear out and that cured it.
