Default I'm new here and my first Cub Cadet

Hi all
New here and just bought my first Cub Cadet model 123. Gave $100 for it. No seat or battery. Hasn't ran in over 2 years. Needs both front tires replaced. Took a chance in it. Did I do ok on the price?
Thanks

You did great on the price, but don't be too hung up on what you spend as far as comparing to this initial purchase amount. You'll likely triple that in a seat, battery, carb kit, 2 tires and an oil change. Keep your eye on the end result, a heavy garden tractor that today's Lowe's Depot mowers can't come close to in longevity.

I'd also suggest a fluid change for the transaxle, (possibly) new points/condenser, and I'd be surprised if you don't need a new key switch. Treat the mower deck as a separate project, for which you might need new belts, blades and a spindle or two.

Welcome to the Cub brotherhood, and keep us posted on your progress!

And for peace of mind, (and household), don't rush to get it done. These old beasts can take more time (and money) than originally planned, to get-r-done. But the final tractor can be a real pleasure to use when their well done.

Congrats, and welcome, to a strong tractor and neighborhood.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
