I need advice on my I47 lift. I took it apart, cleaned it up, replaced the gears, lubed everything, put it back together and to my surprise it didn't work. I took the motor off repositioned, the brake springs, put it back together, same results. I took motor off again removed brake springs it works great. What am I doing wrong???? Are the brake springs really necessary Thanks in advance!!!! Curt

That was my first question. I would go back and step by step check it. I just did a restoration on one and you have to make sure the Brake Springs are set correctly.

Thanks for the reply guy's. NIGHTOWL since you have just done one looking at the pictures in the manual I can't tell if the brake springs go into the top groove or go to the bottom. my other question is are they necessary since it works with out them. CURT

i put the springs in over the cam and set them in the housing first then I dropped the coupling drive attached the motor in to the housing. If that makes any sense. I would use the springs they prevent the coupling from striping the cam.

Under the category of "if it ain't broke," is there any reason to take mine apart and service it if it's currently working fine?

I agree with J-Mech, The only reason I did it was because I want to sell it and I like to make sure it was in good working order. I would at the minimum grease it up and clean her. check wiring and such.

Ok, wasn't sure if there were innards that run dry and get damaged without applying fresh grease every so often.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
