I was just thinking if this substituted for the tie-rod, with a piece coming off the back of the axle to mount...?? It was just an idea. |

you would then need 4 tie rod ends one on each end of that cylinder and one at each spindle but it could be done. only reason i can see for doing this and not bolting on stuff made for it would be cause that part is free... and i always say anything free is worth saving up for

i was just thinking a helm joint on each end (as is already threaded) and connected to the knuckle the same way the tie rod is...the mount body would have to attach to a bracket with some sort of slot in it so that i could "float" forward and back (maybe 2" tops) right off of the axle so that it could still swivel with the axle...the tractor im thinking would be a 1975 monkey wards 16hp hydro, just because it has easy hydraulic capacity and lots of room (no oil pan in the way like the cubs) ...i just dont know if it would need a supply and return off of both sides and if i could tee it off of the steering spool valve..or if one line to each port would function as both, push for supply, then return fluid as pushed from other end?? like i said, just an idea at this point...i do have access to others, and the next size up...which is made for 150hp-300hp outboards.....
thanks guys... mike |

I was thinking of using an OMC ram because it had the valve built in. Plan was to connect one end to the frame and the other end to the drag link. I need to see what the cylinder looks like up close so far all I've seen are pics from the internet.

If your going to use a cylinder like that, you need to look at how the big tractors do it. Much simpler than the way you described.
Red line is where the tie rod runs. Same thing on opposite side. A SGT uses a similar set up, and so do the Lo-Boys. IH axle.jpg You don't need a bigger cylinder......... |

If I do it I'm looking for something like this that has the control valve built into it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
