Has anyone had any experience with Subaru small engines? I didn't even know they made any. Looking to buy a wood chipper off craigslist that comes with one such engine.

They are a good running engine from any experience I've had with them. I have used plate tampers with those engines on them. Always started well and ran without any hitches. Of course they were maintained religiously. As with any engine proper maintenance is the key to success.

I have 7 hp subaru on the dirtmaster backhoe. It don't have many hours on it but I can say it is a very good starting engine.
My only gripe is the way the dipsticks are angled. I find it hard to read. The image is of a 9 hp version but it is much the same layout. ![]() |

I believe Subaru engines are the results of mergers between Wisconsin engines and others over the years.
At least some are built here in North America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_...Power_Products |

I think they are Robin/Subaru. Good engines. Most are listed as an industrial engine. I've had several apart for the plastic governor which exploded which caused over revving.

I push a Billy Goat leaf blower around every autumn. It's equipped with 9hp Subaru/Robin engine. Easy to start. Runs good and smooth. I like it!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
