Default Starter update

Well I wish I had a good review for this Taiwan made starter, but I don't.
Bought it back in Sept. and maybe used it five times since then, Today went out to get the 1650 in the shop to install the push blade, started right up, I was feeling pretty good about the $60 spent on a "good" starter.
Got it in the shop came in the house to get something, went back out and was going to move it....hit the ignition and all it did was spin. The starter engaged to the flywheel and wouldn't turn the engine.
In other words...starter gear engaged the flywheel, starter motor spun and wouldn't turn over the engine.
Took it apart and this is what I found. No clip to take the gear off, just some stupid "hog ring" and the gear is a two piece stuck inside rubber housing. This is the two parts that are slipping, factory gear is solid.
The piece on the shaft was spinning and the gear was bumped in the flywheel, and nothing was starting. Make sense? I don't know how else to explain it. Hopefully the pictures tell the story better.

Could someone, like JeffinPA or myself, make a solid version of the rubber and weld it together?

I suspect our oversea friends made that just enough different so as to not play nice with others.

That is likely..... but, you never know. I'd at least check it out.

FWIW, I've seen that happen many times on other newer machines. Pretty frustrating. BangKohlerStack.gif

Maybe as simple as a bushing to make it "play nice"

The "old" bendix spline that runs on the motor shaft is different.
As far as returning it. I thinx someone (me) may have messed up that idea by taking it apart. After I did I looked to see when I bought it and saw it was warrantied for a year, so.... I'm thinking prolly stuck with it. I did send the seller a message to see, but I have my doubts.
I'm open for suggestion on what you guys think can be done with it, if anything.
The new cub cadet is higher than nuts on a giraffe.

The reason for the rubber is to absorb the shock load of the engagement. I'm afraid without the rubber, the sudden load to the starter shaft may break it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
