When you use the carburetor SPACER GASKET (part# KH 47 049 01-S), does it go on by itself? Or do you put a thin gasket or either side of it? Or do you put a thin gasket on one side or the other of the spacer gasket?
I have the spacer gasket alone on my engine. I know how important it is to not have a vacuum leak at the carburetor. My engine hunts a little bit at WOT with no load. If I engage the mower, the engine smooths out nicely--but does have the occasional miss or sputter during operation. I am trouble shooting the problem, and want to rule-out a vacuum leak at the carb.

With the engine running, spray some carb cleaner (through the red straw) along the gasket. If the engine speed changes at all, you have a leak there. If not, I'd leave well enough alone. Do the same test to the throttle shaft on top of the carb, they are a common wear spot that can let air in.

After you try those things, you might try turning CW your fuel mixture screw. Sounds too rich. Just my .02

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
