the box with the small input gear is from a thrower and the pic with the bigger input gear is for a tiller.
the one on the tiller spins 1to3/4 1 turn input to 3/4 turn output the trower spins 1 turn input to 1/2 turn output. would the box from the tiller be better on the thrower , to speed up the auger 25% pics are dirty, and the boxes are in the wash tank now,

Your ratio's are off Doug.......
Check this out: http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=7866 It would be a speed increase of 33%. And I'm not sure I would do that. That would increase the rotor speed about 350 RPM. That's quite a bit. That's the difference between around 1050 RPM and about 1400 RPM. Besides.... I've shucked gears in a thrower, but not yet in a tiller. Gear reduction of the tiller is quite a bit. I'm not sure the little gears would hack the load. But, it's yours you can try it if you want. ![]() |

Im not going to use the one for tilling.
Ive read about people changing pullies to speed them up, on the throwers. I got my numbers from spinning the shaft by hand and guessing at the spin of the output.

The pulley swap doesn't change it that much. I figured it up once, and it really wasn't very much. IIRC, it was less than 200 RPM. All it really does is throw the snow a little farther. I put a smaller pulley on mine. I can't tell much difference.

I tried swapping pulleys too. it never changed much of anything just tossed the snow a few feet further...

im going to use my 1812 i picked up this summer to throw snow. and was just thinking of swapping the gear boxes. i got this thrower , tiller and 1812 on a trade for painting a Harrley low rider. i dont need the tiller , but you can never have enough attachments.
thanks for your input ...

I changed the drive sprocket and liked the results. Did not have to deal with a small pulley and the slippage. Here is something I posted previously on the speeds of the rotor and theoretical discharge speed. gives a relation of the changes to what people described in experience. Might help to guide to the speed you want. But you will have to do the math on your gearbox change. Or Pm and I will send you the spreadsheet I did this in.
Tim Thrower Pulley=2.5, Rotor=2498RPM, MPH=89.2 Thrower Pulley=3.25, Rotor=1494RPM, MPH=53.3 Thrower Pulley=3.4, Rotor=1428RPM, MPH=51 Thrower Pulley=4, Rotor=1214RPM, MPH=43.3 Thrower Pulley=4.5, Rotor=1079RPM, MPH=38.5 I will be changing the drive sprocket. To avoid a smallish pulley. Plus I already have the 4 inch lower. (18 tooth drive sprocket.) Thrower Pulley=4, Rotor=1434RPM, MPH=51.2 |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
