Default I got the itch...

Well I guess for about a year I have been wanting to get a cub to do some work around our deer lease but have been trying to find the right candidate to start with. Today I picked up a '71 129 and it was only $250 and runs. Hydro for the tiller works but the hydro valves for the tranny are froze up. I'm sure it will be an easy fix.

Nice score, the Texas Rangers will be looking for you as you stole that for $250
The pump is a nice addition to the tractor, I have seen a few in person with that setup.

I agree, im looking at a 149 with hydro and a deck running but the guy wants $500 for it and said he had to weld the coupler between the tranny and motor so w/o looking at it to see what he has done I cant see giving that much for it. It in working shape so he says. Running when parked. Does anyone know anything about the valves for the tranny?

What do you want to know?

If they are bad: replace them.
If they are "froze up": replace them.
If they leak: replace them.
If they work: leave them alone.

This is the place to get them from: Machtechdirect
Don't let the first price you see fool you. That's for a brand new stainless valve. He will rebuild both for less than the price of that one. Call/email him with questions.

Welcome to the forum! You are lucky to find a cub for sale in Texas at all! LOL!

It's a "K" series Kohler. 12hp. What else do you want to know? They're a top notch motor. The best of any small engine series of any make, and the best Kohler ever made, if you ask me.

well its a March of '73 instead of a '71. I got the valves unstuck and working. It goes in forward and reverse.

Super! I was just getting ready to recommend that you soak them in PB Blaster and allow them to set for a few moments before possibly removing them and freeing them up, but that is unnecessary. You really scored on that cub with tiller and hydraulic lift pump for that price. Well done and

thank you, the hydro lift pump for the tiller leaks a little so I may look into rebuilding it. Does anyone know if there is a rebuild kit for this? and I have looked but cant seem to find any ID# at all.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
