Hello, our Original is having a charging problem. The regulator will not start charging most of the time. If I tap on the side of the regulator it will start charging and stay charging. I have pulled the cover off and it looks like new inside. I looked at the contacts and they look like they are in good condition. My starter generator was recently rebuilt by a local guy. All my wireing is in good condition. Regulator is well grounded. What could be causing the regulator to not start charging until I tap on it lightly???? Thank you.

I don't really know, it does say Delco Remy on it. The outside of the regulator on it looks like it is the original one from 1962. Is there something special about the Cub Cadet regulator other than its a 4 wire 12v regulator? I have a new regulator I just picked up from Rural King and it's a 4 wire. I haven't tried the new regulator yet.

Regulator looks like its 52 years old, rusty, faded, remnants of yellow paint. Inside it looks like new.

Well, it sounds like the V/R IS the issue. Being that it is 52 yrs old, you might considered replacing it.

You might try taking the tractor to the guy that rebuilt the S/G and see what he says about it, it may only need a simple adjustment.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
