Default Driveshafts

I have a couple questions with driveshafts on the old cub cadets. First is will a 1450 driveshaft fit on a 149? I know the 149 doesn't have rubber motor mounts but I wasn't sure if the driveshaft was different or not. Also I bought a shortened driveshaft and clutch assembly off of a cub cadet 1200 with a creeper gear. What all do I need to do to connect the driveshaft to the creeper in my cub cadet 128? Thanks for the help Also when I put the clutch and everything back in would it hurt anything to put it back together with small grade 8 bolts instead of roll pins. I hate roll pins with a passion haha.

The roll pin holes are 1/4. I dont know that you would be able to use 1/4 in bolts in those holes without modifying the holes. If you could find some bolts with a long enough shank on them, and still have plenty of threads left to put the nuts, I suppose you could make it work. Im pretty sure the reason that they DONT use that setup is so they wont come loose after time and cause real problems, not to mention balance issues. Those spirol pins are tough stuff, I would not recommend using bolts in thier place, there is just no need to. TB

You need something with a tight, press fit. Otherwise, the slop will cause the holes to waller out egg shaped and you'll have an expensive mess to deal with.

Everyone is right. I will add too, that a grade 8 bolt is hard yes.... in tensile strength. Not in "side load". They shear easily. You can't get anything harder, or that will last as long as the dowel pin. That's the other note I want to make. The 149 uses a dowel pin, not a roll or spirol pin. IDK if you can make the 1450 driveshaft work in the 149 or not. If you need a shaft, contact JeffinPA on this site. He is our driveshaft guy. Here's a link to his ad.

I don't know if your missing anything to attach the driveshaft and creeper in your 128. If you don't know what you have/missing, post pics and we can tell you. Better off with 2 threads for the different tractors. Guys on here have different experiences and may get better responses with separate threads.

The 1450 drive shaft will be too long for your 149. You'll have to cut it off and drill a new hole for the spiral pin.

You also need the couplers (both front and rear) including the ball bushings and the 5/8" ball bearing.

And use the spiral pins...
