Points timing

I just wanna make sure I have this correct. I need to hook up my timing light and adjust the points till the s is centered in the sight hole while the tractor runs at about half throttle? Sorry if this seems stupid but in all my years of working on cubs I've never messed with adjusting the points, I always just set them at 20 and went.

I always use the static timing method. Just use a multimeter to check continuity across the points and turn the engine over by hand. The points should open just as the S mark appears in the sight hole.

all I do is set the points at 20 I did that on mine but still would not run it ended up being in the condenser I have never had to do any timeing

its just like setting timing on an old chevy ford , olds or any other manufacturer. there's a mark on the bearing plate and the flywheel . just line them up.

He wasn't saying it is running rough....... He said he want's to set the timing with the engine at half throttle.

Thanks for the info guys. The only reason im lookin into this is my 108 ran like a champ but my son was playing on it and left the key on and burnt the points, I put new points and condensor on and now it doesn't seem to run perfect anymore and is harder to start so im hoping the timing is off a little and its not a bigger problem.
