I picked up a 1200 last fall after trying to track one down for quite some time.
Its in nice over all shape as can be seen below, I know everyone here likes pics. Cub 1200 -1.jpgCub 1200 -3.jpg Came with this nifty weight bolted to the font. Cub 1200 -2.jpg And this odd bracket attached to the rear hitch. IMG_20140503_191634_150.jpg My guess is this tractor had an attached rear bagger/vac system on it at some point that utilized that bracket and also required the added weight on the front. Perhaps some one here can tell me for sure? |

Despite its nice appearance it came with its share of problems like they all seem to do. A few are typical and rather minor like some play in the front axle mount and worn wheel bearings.
The big issue with this tractor was that the clutch came to me as a box of parts. I guess clutch drivers don't work so well when they are in several pieces. Here's a pic of the carnage and what the engine mounts looked like when I removed them. IMG_20140424_204339_502.jpg The rest of the clutch was original to the tractor and pretty much worn out. The release arm is almost worn through where the throw out bearing rides and the drive shaft is worn as well. After pricing the special driver and all the parts to build a new clutch I decided to buy a completely new clutch assembly for it from Midwest Super Cub with their six pin aluminum driver. I also converted it to Brian Millers solid motor mounts since the non flexible driver required it. Everything went together without too much trouble until I got to hooking the rod from the clutch/brake pedal to the release arm. All of Midwest's pulling clutches come with a stronger spring in them and a longer release arm because of it. As you can see below my stock clutch rod is now too short because of this. IMG_20140424_170351_309.jpg I think my only option here is to make a new rod that's longer in order to get everything to work however I lack the tools and resources to make it myself. Perhaps someone here would be interested in fabricating one up for me or knows someone who would be? |

Yeah, those motor mounts were shot!
Jeff in PA should be able to hook you up with a longer rod. Send him a PM. |

Also with the MWSC arm your lower shield will not fit unless you cut it down some. I installed their arm and HD spring in my 1200 for plow duty but kept the ISO mounts, Great tractor and really quiet too!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
