Default Help! I can't paint over it
I have painted all of the white stuff on my 1811 but have run into something that I cannot explain or correct. Several places on the hood and side panels have what look like spots that will not allow any primer or paint to stick to them. I have sanded the spots and it still will not hold paint. I know that zinc will do that and that any silicone will do it but after sanding and trying to prime it still wont paint. WTF is it?

Try cleaning it with a prep solvent. Sounds like contamination.

Might also try heating the metal. If it's oil, or something similar, it will "cook" out. Then wipe it again with the prep solvent. I agree, the metal is contaminated.

Fish eyes.....that is paint enemy....others gave good advice...a good primer will cover it, like a 2k...

I have used three different primers but I will try a new one. The spots are actually slight impressions where something has eroded the metal. I used a high fill primer trying to fill the depressions but it didn't help. The way the pattern of the spots is looks like it was something that splattered on the hood and side panels. None on the fender pan. I'll let you know if I find out what works on it.

Fisheye is always from contamination and no primer will cover it, at least not for long. I sold automotive paint for 25 years.
