Default Is there a 48" deck?

Hi folks

Non mechanical owner here.

I own a 1000 that I've used for about 15 years. She finally let me know that she needed serious work so I've sent her to a great small engine mechanic. He has her running perfectly but says the current deck is shot - needs serious welding etc. So I'm looking for new deck.

From looking at the specs for this mower it can use a 38", 44" or 50" deck. My mechanic swears the deck has a 48" cut and is 50" wide.

Is there a 48" deck? And if there is how do I find it?

Thanks

The deck should have a tag on it with the model # I only see the decks you mentioned. Get us the numbers or some good pics and I'm sure one of us can help you.

Someone could have put an older 48" deck on it. Pics would be most helpful in determining what you have.

According to Oscar Will's book the mowers available for the 1000 are: 38, 44(44a), 48 and 50 (50A) inch decks available.

If the spindles are still good, I would just get some welding done. Finding a reasonably priced good used deck in the spring could be tough.

Thank you PaulS. Ok, so I have a rare 48" deck.

I've found a 44" deck in working order close to me (thank you craigslist) so I'm going to get that for regular mowing.

Is my 48" something a restorer would be interested in or should I have it welded into working order and keep it as a back up?

Hmm...did this person contact you about the deck and only send one picture with a foot holding the deck up?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
