The reason I ask is, I just cleaned the face of my hour meter on my 1450 with 800 wet paper & polishing compound so I could actually read it. It shows 135 (yes it is working) but since I bought the machine last year I have no idea what the actual hours are. I would bet that it has been around at least once so that would make 735 total.
She runs fine, no drive problems so I guess to me it is just a number. Now that I can read the clock I will have something to go on for PM services. Just wondering what others had for hours on their machines. Greg

I've got a 1450 with unknown hours but it's certainly been run around the block once or twice. After a little TLC, she's running strong again ready to till and mow up this year then push some snow next winter. I've also got a 1050 with, again, unknown hours and it's just starting to smoke but honestly, it starts on a dime every time. And finally, my 1811 has about 81x hours on it and running great (finally, don't ask). There's others here with thousands of hours on motors that went and are still going strong, it's honestly all about maintenance; oil changes, spark plugs, points, carb cleanings, etc. Take care of them, and they'll take care of you

Don't know how many the 782 has. My 1872 has a little over 1200 hours.

My 982 would have had to lap the clock at least once given the wear I am finding. My 2072 has some over 900 hours. I did run across a 1282 recently with over 4000 hours, I still don't believe it and I looked at it twice. If they are real hours the machine was used but not abused. The guy wanted $700 for it and it wouldn't run, I expect he'll be keeping it a while longer.
As for maintenance, we don't go by hours but by the calendar. We don't use them for severe duty or commercially. We change oil once or twice a year and change hydro filter at the beginning of the season. Grease it a couple times a year unless something on the deck needs it more often. Clean and replace the air filter as needed based on the conditions you are cutting, same for the blades. Everything else inspect and repair as needed. |

My 1250 had 3,651 and 6 seconds on it before I started parting it out. No joke.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
