Default 1782 Charging

I purchased this 1782 last spring and just love it! So does Josh! Check out that grin. I have worked through some electrical problems though I still have an intermittent charging issue as after a couple hours when hot the voltage indicator will flash then after a while will stay solid and after a few days of this occurring the battery will need charging to start. Large Interstate with 450 cca. After a full charge from my batt charger, from a cold start the charging system when tested works fine with the voltage in the 13s at the battery when running. Wonder if somewhere on the site there is a brief TS procedure and test specs for the alternator and rectifier? I did clean up the ground and look everything over good but I suspect a defective part and plan to test to spec when it's acting up this spring. All suggestions and speculations welcome.

How old is your battery? I have had one that would take a good charge but after very little use would go below the required level to start the engine. If you have a hydrometer use it to see if all of you cells are good.

Paul, welcome to OCC. That is a nice machine. Put a good digital volt meter across the battery and see what voltage you get before you start it and at full throttle and check it again after it warms up good. IIRC I think it should max out at 14.7 VDC. The Kubota's charging systems are kind of small in these tractors so if you have the lights on and/or the pto it will put a load on the battery. Thanks Guys. Soooo had some time today and thought I'd work on the tractor. Needed to replace the exhaust manifold and stack. ( I'll post a new thread with Pics) But as luck would have it as I'm down under working out the lower manifold bolts I see that one of the barrel connectors on the generator wires is just barely connected. So I redid the connections with shrink and the charging problem solved. Paul

Default Update : No Smoke Today

Well long story short inspectorudy was right afterall! Found a few moments to get away and be with the smoker and it wouldn't start. Followed the fine advice received and checked the cells with a hydrometer. 2 cells way down in the red zone after charging So out it comes and as the OP had an Interstate and I am partial to the brand, I went online and spent considerable time figurin out just what I had and what the current replacement is. Terrible site for anything but application match and my 1782 wasn't on their list. Seems as though this late 1782 takes a MT-22F Here is the link for those interested:

What are you guys recommending/using for a battery in your Diesel? There's loads of room up front of the 640.

I'd use the biggest one you can get in the hole and still shut the hood.

I absolutly agree with J Mech. I always get the biggest one that will fit and the highest CCA I can find and none of my tractors are deisels.

We'll I located an MT-22F at an Interstate distributor and installed it last night....Thought all was solved but once she was warm and workin pulling summer wheels and tires from the barn, the low voltage light came on I didn't have time but I'll get the meter on it this weekend. Paul
